Sleeping Lover Poem by Alice Kriel

Sleeping Lover

The bed is soft and warm
like your shape softly snoring
The fairy of sleep is due
I’ll soon be in a dream
But my mind is a storm
around thoughts without mooring
I wish to be with you;
yet you’re farther than it seems

If only you could fill me
quiet the constant pain
and make this love more
I need you to feel and see
relish in the moon and rain –
you sleep on oblivious as before
