Sleepless - Poem by Maia AlmediaAmir
It's no sleep for the wicked
And now no sleep for the good.
None for the restless,
The coulorblind and the weak.
No sleep for the faint-of-heart
And the demons that they keep
The brave must now be wakeful too;
A watch of baggy-eyed angels
Against the bogeymen who'll chase your children!
The night crawlers,
And day hounders,
And high-noon killers:
Their precious job, too good to loose
Is easily won by a prying mind,
Now they too are bade awake.
No sleep for those who cry
In sadness or in joy,
Those prism-people hold spectrums of emotion.
And who could rest with
Richard Of York Giving Battle In Vein
Again and again in their little brain?
We guard the night through sleep
And the day through nap and siesta.
Us, the mild-mannered, polite, cold-eyed
Guardians of the realm.
Now only the fearful can sleep.
