Sleepy Couplets Poem by David Whalen

Sleepy Couplets

Rating: 4.5

Sleepy Couplets

If only sleep was as simple
As closing one's eyes

And dreams a choice
From which to decide

If only the tossing and turning
Were but a nightly exercise

And the worrisome torments
Could be cast casually aside

But there is no easy remedy
For eyes opened wide

There's no simple solution
That hasn't been tried

So put a good book close by
Next to your bedside

And before you know it
Before you realize…

That Morpheus will have arrived
And sleep (blessed sleep)

…Has gently…quietly
…Closed your eyes...

A lovely and thoughtful piece beautifully crafted. This poem resonates for me.Sleep is so elusive sometimes. Well penned.
