Smaller Cycles Poem by Joan Marques

Smaller Cycles

The time between
Getting dressed in the morning
And undressed in the evening
Is shrinking

My mailbox
Is in fast forward mode
Contents get obsolete
While I am still thinking

The space between my showers
The distance between meals
And the intake of daily vitamins
Is melting away

My cycles are becoming smaller
As my years in life increase
Tomorrow is here
While I am still digesting today

As days become months
And months become years
Strife is superseded
By the will to retire

Life is a dash
From birth to death
Holistic view enters
As we slowly expire
