Smoke Poem by David Martin

Smoke

Smoke

Blue streams and Red Streams
Chasing smoke, crashing hope
Trying to kill my dreams
But they can't catch
Smoke

You might bind my hands
You might yoke my Mind
And put shackles on my beliefs,

But when I throw back my head,
Look to the sky and breathe,
Smoke

You say I am killing my mind
But your civil society
Your jacket and tie mentality
Confines my individuality
So set me free,
Like smoke

So let my lips be black
And lets my eyes be red
Jah not looking for the clean shave on my head
Cause to get to heaven your heart must be clean,
Like smoke

Yet time flies by like
Smoke

Cause people die
And children are born,
Cause money moves
And bills rise
Like smoke

So I thank marijuana for my red eyes and my black lips
I can see my failure and I can taste my defeat
I thank marijuana for the Black Death looming through lungs
Like smoke.

My entire life
Nothing to show
Vanishing fast
fleeting like smoke
