(()) So Kiss Me My Sweet(For My “old Man.”) - Poem by Dee Wright

The question
hangs on

in the air

as if it were drawn

I sip in silence
the too hot tea

he takes
now from me

takes my hand
kisses it

gently sings:

“Thrilled by the wonder of you and
the magical touch of your hand and...”

He sweeps me off
my feet

as he waltzes me
from room to room

my laughter fluttering
ahead of us

like butterflies
my fingertips graze

hit &:

my precious grandmother’s
precious vase

gaze amazed

as he catches it
on his in-step.

I delighting
in all this

magical choreography
feel I’m in a movie

waiting for a director to
scream: “Ok...ok... cut! ”

“And my heart starts to beat
like a child when its birthday is near...! ”

I laugh at
“my old man”

singing me
the songs

of his childhood.

Me! More into the new

He thinks he’s Mario Lanza...ha!

“So, kiss sweet!
It’s the loveliest night of the year! ”

Shit! When you are in love
all this corny stuff isn’t corny! ”

Dizzy with love
we topple over

softly onto the plush
shhh...shush carpet

lie there
perfectly still
as the world continues to waltz
around us.

Make love
as the light fades

covers our nakedness
with darkness.

So, this is his
answer to

“Will tomorrow be
as lovely as today is! ”

Next day
I skip to Tesco

hop scotch along the path

feeling like I’m 9 again
humming to myself

“Stars blossom above
every time that they know you are near...! ”

out of tune
and getting the words wrong.

Old man
half human half Zimmer-frame

gives me a big grin.

“Long time since I heard that one love! ”
“How come a young one like you knows that song? ”

I beam:

“My old man
taught it to me! ”

Dee I absolutely love this - not a word wasted! And yes, you're right, when you're loved up, nothing's ever corny! I'm loving the hop-skotch playing Dee - adorable! HG: -) xx (Report) Reply

He's good to you, your old man. Brings out your softer side. Lovely, lovely, lovely! ! !
