So Many Things Poem by George Howard

So Many Things

There were so many things that I needed to say.
And then came that day when you went away.
You were always there for me my armour, my backbone.
That look, a smile. I never knew Alone.
I’d pour out my troubles, to your quiet strength.
An ever open ear, listening at length.
I never really did thank you, not wholly at all.
And then came the day when I hit the wall.
You silently held me, your arms did enfold.
I had not the right, but my senses were cold.
There were so many things that I needed to say,
And then came that day when you went away.
I should have been your strength, your tower, your rock.
Guilt feelings they whip me, as I now take stock
Of my weak selfish ways.
You withered before me, I, a sentry by your bed.
The words there, mouth open! What came out instead,
Don’t leave me sweet mother, for I need your love.
Here endeth the lesson! She’s gone now, above.
There were so many things that I needed to say.
And then came that day when you went away.
