So What If I Am Off-Key? Poem by Tyrone Gayle

So What If I Am Off-Key?

Some weeks ago, people told me that on my head I have a sponge,
So I bobbed it with a smile like I just had dumpling and butter for lunch,
And like a squid I decided to use my ink to avoid the incoming longe,
Life is a deep blue sea of weirdness and in it I am not afraid to plunge!

Don't go on that lean trampoline with everyone, you might get trample,
You are an ewe and people don't get you, that's a perfect example,
All I see is lies, do your actual self, stop doing the sample,
In the long run like a Kenyan, true happiness will be ample.

That is what I told this eccentric fellow in my mirror,
Because he is dumb at times looking at others and feeling inferior,
Come on! Interest in people's approval is a deadly self imposed terror,
If you're living for a dream team and not the Supreme being, that's an error.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I have a bizarre high top on my head that resembles a big piece of sponge according to a lot of my friends and colleagues. This critique of my hairstyle and my overall, personality and dressing influenced me to write this poem. I felt the deep urge to express my disgust with being like everyone.

Ah! So much truth in this poem! Why be or even want to be the same as others. Have said this before and will repeat until my last day on earth. Be true to you! Always!
