Soap Opera (Episode #6) Poem by Bryan Corbett

Soap Opera (Episode #6)

Soap Opera (episode #6)
'Elmer'

the bailiff walked Hudson Fowler down the hallway
that led to the judge's chambers of E. William Entwistle
the E. is for Elmer, but nobody ever called him that
at least not to his face, anyway

Hudson sat down in the seat in front of the judge's desk
the bailiff excused himself and closed the door
when the door opened again five minutes later
the honorable judge placed a hand on Hudson's shoulder

he stood up and the two men embraced as long time friend do
then the judge walked around his desk and Hudson sat back down
'Saw it in the papers, Hud. Big mess.'
'Yeah. Ricardo really screwed the pooch this time.'

'Indeed. Two dead bodies. This isn't going to go away.'
Hudson crossed his right leg over his left
the two men stared at each other for a moment
'Any strings you can pull for him, Elmer? '
