Soap Opera (Episode #5) Poem by Bryan Corbett

Soap Opera (Episode #5)

Soap Opera (episode #5)
'Unfinished Business'

Elizabeth Storm, Frank's mother
was staring out the lobby window of the mental hospital
from her wheelchair she could see all the cars
pulling into the parking lot
today was visitor's day

not that Elizabeth would be having any visitors today
she's never had a single visitor, family or friend
since the day her son had whisked her away
and admitted her into this hell hole last year
not that she remembered exactly why

she wasn't too clear on a lot of details anymore
the Alzheimer's that had been creeping up on her for years
and had now completely taken over all of her memories
leaving her in a perpetual fog
unable to do much more than mindlessly watch
Family Feud

the only clear memory she had left
the one that played over and over
in what was left of her mind
was of that of some man, was it her son?
trying to get her to sign a very legal-looking piece of paper
and then shortly thereafter she ended up here
