Socializing With My Love Poem by Sisha Kalam

Socializing With My Love

Rating: 5.0

I missed a line but couldn't escape my character
So I stayed nodding and besides stage hides mere actor
But the narrator too was behind the curtains
So she's like screw you, i do have an audience
She snapped at me all raw
like my dumbshow wouldn't beat her vocals anymore
But i clapped her cheek in awe
as she ended 'so stop pretending and behave like a social animal'

Sisha, I have read with interest your intricate and painstaking explanation of the theme of your poem and thank you for analyzing it line by line. It certainly clarifies your inspiration and intention, but remember poetry is a two way process. It is a relationship between reader and poet and while metaphor can be an incredibly powerful tool for highlighting emotion and irony, above all, the poet needs to communicate with the reader, or the reader is left rudderless. I think a few more 'hints' as to the source of your story might have improved the poem. It is obviously important to you to be understood. love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

With your explanation, one could go through that veil of what you have penned. You were putting up an act that you were listening, she saw through you that you were not paying attention, and uttered something to get you back to reality. An interesting poem, simple but deceptive in appearance. But one will do or can read it from another angle.

Lol it really isnt about drying on stage or anything as such, it basically is trying to imply what happens when two lovers are talking and one pretends as if he is listening to the other but gets caught acting, so the narrator is referred to as the girl who is talking and the mere actor is the boy who is pretending as if he's listening. The 'stage hides mere actor' is said because the boy thinks he'll get away pretending over such small thing, and the 'narrator too was behind the curtains' is said because the girl finds out that the boy is pretending since the boy(the mere actor) was hiding behind the stage and the girl(narrator) too was behind the curtains. This leads to argument and the girl(narrator) snaps at him telling ' i do have an audience' which means that there are other people who will listen to her.The 'dumbshow' couldn't beat her vocals anymore' reference is used because the boy thinks that the girl is making a big deal out of the situation and yelling on since he was quiet. Finally, 'clapped her cheek in awe as she ended so stop pretending and behave like a social animal ' reference is used because the boy ends up slapping her for making a big deal and instead being the one who's putting on an act for a such a minor thing and also because she ends up telling him to behave like a social animal. So this whole poem deals with the complexities that arise when two lovers try to to socialize and hence the title.

As an actor myself, I know the terror of 'drying' on stage. The rest of the poem I found confusing, though. Not sure about the narrator, and the title? But there is certainly a genuine poet lurking between the lines somewhere. I'll be interested to read more of your work. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
