Some Men Do Grow Older Poem by Francis Duggan

Some Men Do Grow Older

Some men do grow older but not wiser they seem not to learn much from life
The old bloke in his early eighties is still known to beat his old wife
One wonders why she remains with him perhaps for her now 'tis too late
For her to make a new start elsewhere tied to him by her gift of faith
Some men do grow old but not wiser to learning they cannot relate
They sow the seeds of their poor karma the karma we reap we create
We cannot learn if we are not open to learning the sun through a closed door can't shine
They are happy in their own ignorance for ignorance does suit them fine
Those who claim you cannot put an old head on young shoulders in some cases have got it wrong
For wisdom does not have an age or a gender nor to one group it does not belong
Some people in old age quite silly no fool like an old fool some say
Some young people wise beyond their years and they learn from life every day
Some men do grow old but not wiser and to some women this too does apply
And why they have not learned from living why ask me I wouldn't know why.
