Sometimes Poem by Derek Brendish

Sometimes

SOMETIMES

By: Derek Richard Brendish

Sometimes I think of the years gone by
Shrunk into a few flashes called memories
An intermittent flow of transformations
Brushed upon by strokes of radiance
Yet speckled by spots of adversity
That seem to say, ‘this was your life',
This was for real, I never lie'.

Sometimes I smile at what could have been
Weeds usurped the space of blossoms
Crushing the very earth that nourished them
Strangling the fragrance that could've spread
While a new sun rose in the horizon of fate.
And the soft breeze whispered, ‘Wait,
Wait for the sunshine and the rain'

Sometimes I wonder how to move on.
Pain won't subside, scars refuse to fade,
Dying is not an option, the burden still weighs.
I'll struggle through this maze, undeterred.
Splashed by the rain, struck by the heat
And pulled back, I swear I won't be beat
I hear you say, ‘There's light at the tunnel's end'.

Sometimes I want just a reason to live
Fight on to see my seed grow to a tree
Nourished with love, eager to bloom
Stranded sometimes in a maze of life.
I watch the tenderness begin to harden
Knowing the truth yet silenced and darkened
The clouds will clear, just be patient.

Sometimes I cry looking back at life
Thinking why I didn't drive when I chose to rest
Cheated by the shade under miraged trees
Sweating, with a hope for a cooling breeze.
Regret the days when the sun went down
Without having laughed, only did frown
And the wrinkles seemed to say, ‘you're wiser'

Sometimes I look at what lies ahead
Hope the sun will shine brighter one day
The rain might fall gently from above
And I may be blessed with happiness and love.
Maybe I'll have a life that I may call my own
And finally, finally I won't be so so alone.
Clouds blow away and the sun peeps through.

Sometimes I speak to my inner self
I tell him to wait but he says, ‘there's no time,
Sometimes you need to step out of line
Spread your wings and all will be fine,
Just take the plunge rise to the sky,
Forget all those questions, ‘How? ', ‘When? ', ‘Why? '
The world waits with open arms, ‘Come home.'
