Their rented house was better than their own;
They went abroad to spend some weeks and rest;
All seemed so well away and in their town;
Their time with daughter was in life the best.
But soon they heard that heavy rains had poured;
Their lovely coastal town was flooded fast;
Deluge it was, never before incurred;
Some parts of city turned akin sea, vast.
Their house was under water to ceiling;
The shocking news was too much for the two;
There was no point in praying or wailing;
Nothing much could the aged couple do.
The loss was great but lives were spared by God;
They must begin their life anew - so odd!
May God help flood victims to normalize!

A very realistic and somber appraisal of the upheaval that shattered the lives of thousands of people including the hapless couple described in the poem. A lovely sonnet. Thanks.
