Sonnet: A Nation In Chaos Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: A Nation In Chaos

When freedom got is misused by those freed,
When citizen has nothing to call ‘his’,
When fellowmen’s lives are ignored indeed,
How can a country forge ahead like this?

When unity is just a namesake word,
When divisions are by caste, status, creed,
When civilized men behave like man-herd,
And millions poor remain and cannot feed.

When scams in crores happ’ning are written off,
When justice is denied or much delayed;
When corruption is rampant, yet all laugh,
And labor sans dignity is ill-paid.

How can a nation, people say they’re proud?
‘Accursed be they’- my heart cries out aloud.
