Sonnet- Elections These Days Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet- Elections These Days

Rating: 2.0

Here come the elections again, again!
A democratic exercise for all?
To parched a land, what’s use of just some rain?
A house with just a partial compound-wall!

A wasteful, unhealthy, repeated drill,
For nations, sick with scams and corruption;
For people poverty-stricken and ill;
A loss of man-hours and disruption.

The same old heroes, villains in the fray!
More blatant lies, false promises and stunts,
To hold the voter’s mind in trance-like sway;
Kickbacks, pay-offs, horse-trading, treasure hunts!

Who needs such election rituals, brother?
To vote electorate will not bother!
