Sonnet: I Shan’t Follow The World Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: I Shan’t Follow The World

Rating: 0.5

How can I change my ways to match the world?
For years I’ve slogged for principles so good;
In middle-age, why should I change my mould?
Till now, for truth and honesty, I’ve stood.

Why should I change my ways just for world’s sake?
Suffered I have in life till now, maybe!
Amongst the righteous few too, I see fake;
I live working for my Eternity.

Who can escape punishments forever,
The Maker, world or himself gives someday?
The rewards may come on earth or may never;
I keep my soul pure, trudging just God’s way.

Why live a hundred or more years but lose,
My war ’gainst sin and devils, that too close?
