Sonnet: If Not For God, Man Is A Naught! Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: If Not For God, Man Is A Naught!

If not for God’s mercy, I am a naught;
If not for grace divine, what can I do?
If not for providence, in strife I’m caught;
If not for His guidance, I do things few!

If not for Word of God, life’s meaningless;
If not for His protection, life’s at risk;
If not for God’s love and care, life’s worthless;
If not for His plans, I cannot be brisk!

Success in life on earth is not my own;
Failures if tackled well can change too soon;
Nothing on earth is wrought by me alone;
My fervent prayers turn into my boon!

Man lives by God’s decrees, not just by bread;
The soul if stained by mortal sin is dead!
