Sonnet: O Cauvery! O Kaveri! (In Hexameter) Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: O Cauvery! O Kaveri! (In Hexameter)

Oh, let the rivers flow in natural routes to seas!
The man-made dams are good but should not change their course;
The water conduit should be full and never cease;
The melting snows and mountain streams are always source.

No river-bed should dry up any time of year;
From rivers, flora, fauna drink to heart's content;
The flow pre-set by Nature when in spate gives fear;
For all riparian states, the river water's meant.

Oh, never let the river turn into a lake!
God made the rivers flow to make the soil fertile;
Do share the water peacefully for heaven's sake;
When rain in torrents pours, can mankind stop the Nile?

All people quench their thirst and bathe in river-streams;
Disputes o'er rivers should not happen ev'n in dreams!
