Sonnet: On Becoming A Teacher Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Becoming A Teacher

Your student-years have almost ended, dear;
A phase anew, you've entered in your life;
A teacher has to learn and teach sans fear;
Professional love must triumph over strife.

Your brain has enough knowledge for the job;
Some gaps and deficiencies must be filled;
Don't develop fear of students as a mob;
To be a teacher is a gift God-willed.

A noble profession is teaching, sure;
Good teachers can impart their ken to all;
The love of pelf and self should not allure;
To teach the college students is your call.

A teacher stays a student too always;
But bliss and contentment will fill the days.

Most lovingly dedicated to my elder daughter

Very thoughtful and heartfelt tribute to a teacher by way of a beautiful sonnet. Thanks, Sir. Good teachers can impart their ken to all; The love of pelf and self should not allure; A teacher stays a student too always; But bliss and contentment will fill the days.
