What melody can surpass songs of Birds?
Their larygnx resonate with magic tones;
How pleasant 'Tis to watch grass-eating herds!
The River-bed studded with pebbly stones.
How thrilling 'tis to watch monkeys at play!
And think that man evolved from such species?
How happy seem children on holiday!
The nectar of flowers sucked by honey-bees.
And yet, man's wealth is knowledge and wisdom,
The health of mind and body and soul's state;
The children, spouse, nation's hard-won freedom,
Long span of life and contentment till date.
For nothing do we take with us at death,
Nor do we bring when we take our first breath.
