Sonnet- The Wily World Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet- The Wily World

Enthroned and given power, when you are,
They come the rascals, scoundrels, one by one!
Saluting bringing gifts and talking fair;
To get their selfish favors, slyly done.

They were your real foes at earlier times;
Gossiping, gathering information;
When good fortune now favorably chimes,
They come with bouquets, congratulations!

The Wolves have shed their sheepskin camouflage!
The sheep can graze without much danger now;
Their wickedness now runs in metre-guage!
They hesitate to never bend or bow.

This is the kind of world, we live in!
A world of shamelessness and mortal sin.
