Sorry My Child Poem by eddy marco

Sorry My Child

My dear child,

You are at the age when all is fun and play
From the time you open your eyes right throughout the day
With your silly grin and cheeky smirk you run around all day
Full of zest and energy you’re oblivious to what we say

Alas out of nowhere your world abruptly halted.
More deafening than the loud roar of thunder you were jolted
Nothing before you've seen or heard could help you figure out
The sheer temptation to run away and hide from it; no doubt

As terror erupts you froze in complete and utter shock
The reason behind the violent scene your young mind can’t unlock
Very much in shock you scramble not knowing what to say
Oh God please stop all the madness surely you must silently pray
Let me get back to my world of joy, laughter, fun and play
And make the Sun shine through the clouds and brighten up my day

As custodian of you at such a tender age I have surely failed
To shelter you from all things bad which subverts the vow I’ve hailed

You should not have had to witness
You should never have had to bear
All of life’s grim and sadness
You should not have had to care

You will learn and discover for yourself someday
That life is more than just Play-Do and clay
But as long as I am in full control
I will protect you with my body and soul

I am sorry my child for allowing you
To witness the things you’re not privy to
If there’s one thing in this world I’d ask for, ever
Is that all the bad memories are erased and gone forever
