“by endurance we conquer”
said the man to his haggard crew
“the soul, the heart, and every part
synchronized will pull us through.”

we are made of foreign atoms
made from stars; from rocks and sand
but our humanistic tendencies
keep our minds off of the land

“why should i beat? ” one day asked heart
“why bother? ” stomach grumbled.
“because we care, ” replied the soul
“and if we don’t you’ll crumble.”

so many people have walked this earth
living, dead, or halfway there
nobody knows the end of birth
when we stop drinking air
