Speak Poem by Jen Van Houten

Speak

Rating: 5.0

When you're oppressed for who you are

Speak

When you're judged for your gender

Speak

When you're shunned for who you love

Speak

When you're criticized for how you dress

Speak

When your opinion is shot down

Speak

When you're sexually harassed

Speak

When you create an idea

Speak

When you invent something

Speak

When you defend yourself

Speak

When you're mocked at for what you love

Speak

When you've finally accomplished all

Speak

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The word speak can represent so much. In this case, I'm using it as a tool to make a stand. Empowerment and support. If you're knocked down in any way, don't be afraid to speak. You are who you are. You love what you love. Be who you are.

Superbly crafted masterpiece. Loved reading this poem which has a very practical message for young ladies particularly from a society where women are treated as second rate citizens. Thanks, Jen Van.
