I remember it clearly I remember it well
We were driving along everything was swell
When I looked in the mirror and behind I could see
Those bright flashing lights coming toward me.
I froze in my seat I wanted to die
I was hoping and praying he would pass by.
My friend said, 'slow down I don't think it's you'
But the closer he got I knew it was true.
He was pulling me over I was scared as could be
My hands were just shaking and so was my knee.
He came up to the window and asked for my license
And I was hoping I had it for this terrible crisis.
He told me, 'be careful whenever you drive'
'Follow the rules don't go sixty five.'
He wrote me a ticket for ten bucks
And I thought to myself this really sucks.
Then he got in his car and I drove away
With my first speeding ticket that's all I can say.
Disappointed and ashamed I have to admit
I thought this incident would surely make me quit
And I thought I learned a lesson or maybe even two
That I'd never leave late again but I always do.
Looking in the rear view mirror checking back to see
If there are flashing lights coming after me.

I wrote this poem a long time ago. My friend Kathie, had been a nanny in Connecticut. She came back to North Dakota, for a visit. Her and I decided we'd meet up with some other friends for a night of bowling. We were talking and I wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going and all of a sudden there were flashing lights behind me. This happened back in the days when the speed limit was 55 mph and speeding tickets were $10. Those were the good old days!
