Spiritually Completely Broke Poem by Francis Duggan

Spiritually Completely Broke

You may as well be happy sir your problems only small
Compared to others it would seem you are not badly off at all
Last year you bought two brand new cars, your kids in private school
When you tell me you're hard done by life you must think I'm a fool

For to believe your sad story and feel sympathy for you
The victim mentality a human flaw so happens to be true
And you've got the victim mentality you've convinced yourself you're poor
Whilst in truth you are one of the privileged the financially secure.

Your salary one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year and you feel that's not enough
If this be so those who live in the poor suburbs they must be doing it tough
Their annual income not even a tenth of your's and they manage to make do
In their eyes you are a wealthy bloke one of the privileged few.

You and your wife drive around in your year old cars and live in your big house in the wealthy side of town
But you've got the victim mentality and such negative thinking drags one down
Financially secure no doubt but spiritually completely broke
A financial succes you may be but in other ways you are a poor bloke
