Spontaneous Poetry! Poem by Denis Martindale

Spontaneous Poetry!

An inkling in the heart and mind and twinkling in the eyes,
A brand new poem for Mankind, to take it by surprise,
A title springing from somewhere, a first line from somehow,
A poem winging on the air, as if to take a bow.
The poet staring at the page, then searching that first rhyme,
That soon propels him to the stage of something thought sublime,
A miracle composed and penned, a mystery supreme,
A vision meant to comprehend that lives outside a dream.
A shadow gliding pensively, that's sliding left to right,
The pen awaiting what must be, as who knows what's in sight?
The poet crossing out a phrase, a new one to install,
The ink still bleeding to replace with wonders great and small.
The verses battling for each spot the poet deems as good,
As if advancing through the plot exactly as each should.
Verse two gets switching to verse three and verse six moves to five,
Until the final poetry at last can come alive.
It's then the poet reads the lines over and over again,
Just scanning, looking for the signs, corrections now and then.
With triumph turning into peace and joy replacing grief,
At last the poet finds release and words beyond belief!
