Spooky Night Tale Poem by Alfred Ramos

Spooky Night Tale

The fog sneaked in like a mangy alley cat
Looking for its next meal
It hugged the cobblestone street
As it squeezed the darkness tight
The street lamps spewed what little light they could
The shadows dance like ballerinas
Who was who I don’t know?
It made my skin crawl, goose bumps upon goose bumps
My eyes were fooled momentarily by a shift of sound
Creeping towards me in a dark cape of death
I let out a silent scream
A breath trapped between my lungs and my lips
I froze in fear of all extenuating circumstances
All my sins were to be tried in a moment of trepidation
Fear showed its empty wallet, no bravery to be bought
My spine curled in a spasmodic twitch
The moon briefly peeked its lemon yellow face
But the curtain of darkness quickly dropped into place
In the distance neon lights are winking at me
Should I withdraw or chance the pain
A siren ricochets inside my rattled brain
Silence interrupted coming at me like a bullet train
The fire truck suddenly stops a block away
A fireman jumps and races into a dim lit structure
Then rushes out with steaming pizza boxes in his hands
And quickly, quietly slips into the spooky night
It’s the last time I go out for pizza after midnight
