Sport Has Become Big Business Poem by Francis Duggan

Sport Has Become Big Business

We hear and read of elite sports people every day
For to watch them in action people big money pay
They are paid huge sums of money and they know great fame
And some of their fans their children in their honour name.

Sport has become big business and many a young person's dream
Is becoming a famed individual sports star or part of a great winning team
A dream through their teenage years that some do pursue
But as we know for a few only such dreams do come true.

For their millions the super star sports people need not thank me
I seldom even watch them in action on the t v
By far and away out of them too much is made
They are treated as small gods and grossly over paid.

Though not every sports person becomes a millionaire
The super rich athletes are no longer rare
And though I don't envy them their wealth and the fame they enjoy
A ticket to watch them I never would buy.
