Spring Poem by Steffi Webster

Spring

Icy ground a cold prison
Solid and unyielding
Unfeeling, not revealing
Any weakness

And yet…

In the dark and bleakness
Through the turning of the earth
Speaks of rebirth and
Brings back the sun to
Crack the ice, a worthy
Sacrifice not once or twice
But instead a web of openings
Paths to the sky, time to live
And breathe and fly.
Birds reclaim the air
Home from foreign climes
Banished to so they
Survive and roam the hills
And dales and fill the air
With song and life for
Not long until the shoots
And buds push through
The earth and dormant roots
Awake and retake the
World once more and
Spread lush green from
Shore to shore.
