Spring Blues Poem by Ma Aileen Canizares Salibay

Spring Blues

Rating: 5.0

Along the beach cackles and gun strikes
equaled the waves splashing fun in Songkran.
But as the summer hues flashed in everyone's eyes
why did spring fill mine?
My eyes were heavy
Pretty much like when the sky's grey.
I couldn't even tell which one was bitter
Was it my espresso or his photo with her?
Was I really meant to love you to learn the art of letting go?
I wish it was someone else… not you!
Was I meant to love you to feel the pain when people go?
I wish it was someone's else…not you!
Back then I never played "hard -to-get" to you.
I just knew that we're two (we were two) .
When she flirted with you, it hurt that you liked it too.
Yeah, she's this "I get what I want"
And I was the silent one you put behind.
No, I wasn't blaming you.
It was my fear too that led her to you.
But this time I'd drink this rain of pain
Until I could grow hope again in my garden.
