Spring Stream Survey Poem by William Waterway

Spring Stream Survey

lie on belly
sprawl on quickening sands
prop chin on flat hands
sneak-peek over living show
blissfully watch the flow

In submerged depths
above sunken yellow leaf
finger-sized fingerling
seemingly still
faces upstream

from beneath dead tree
white gnat floats
fish breaks between
with speed unseen
gnat internal

time floats by
vortices appear disappear
here and over there
as dense molecular swirls
cast bottom shadows spinning round

it's all a cycle

you see

or

you
don't
