Stalemate Poem by Julie Lucas

Stalemate

Inside there wages a war
An ultimate winner and loser
Fighting for fear,
Fighting for faith,
For recognition, for perceived right

They fight to be heard
They fight to be felt
To be touched and be known
To remain numb and alone
To repress what results in explosive resurfacing

Here they quarrel
To no avail
Lest the other give in
