Star Spangled Mammal Poem by M.J. McGuire

Star Spangled Mammal

A mule deer,
Trail savvy,
Sound leery,
Dressed in caramel velvet
And calcite hoof,
Steps my way
Into the rising moon's light.

Nose descending,
Eyes like torches,
Antlers toward Orion...
He flicks and flashes
Like star birth
Crackling
Through glowing spruce needles
And luminous leaf meal.

All of this...
To eat the radiant apple core
I threw him.

Different take on Adam and Eve- with some kind of animal/hard to place. Nice creative inventive thought provoking poem!
