Stegosaurus Poem by Cat Singh

Stegosaurus

When I look up "stegosarous" online,
it corrects my spelling and then lists
the extinct creature as "reptile."
It shows cartoon replicas of the reptile
next to would-be humans.
Look how tall stegosauruses are-
spiny tails swaying
right above an adult man's head!
This is how tall an adult man ought to be,
indicates the diagram. Adult men
wear plain sweaters and nice pants
and always have a woman and a husky
walking next to them. Adult men
hold a wide stance and stroll with their arms
always 4 to 6 inches away from their body.

(STEG-oh-SORE-us) "roof lizard"

If I were a stegosaurus, I imagine I would stare
out at the bean of light on the horizon
every morning as the sun starts to rise.
I imagine I would eat my leafy greens
like I didn't know any better.
I would throw my tail around to keep myself alive;
to keep from being eaten by things
that didn't know any better.
I imagine I would love to eat.
I imagine I wouldn't know much of what
adult human men
might be like.
Maybe they are like trees.
Maybe they are like the water.
An adult man might come up to about my tail's height.
They might be anything, anything at all.
