Stephen Lawrence Poem by Anton Raes

Stephen Lawrence

Time passes
But Memories never fade
Its been 18 years
18 years to late
For a Crime they didn't wanna
Admit was Race hate
They were guilty
Their crime was filthy
It was evident
Yet they still
said no evidence
Witness after witness
Case after case
Justice seemed like something
Mr and Mrs Lawrence
would never taste
It was a travesty
They called it assumption
We called it corruption
A diversion of freedom
A despicable reality
It separated our communities
Segregated our families
We lost hope
But we never lost faith
Let me demonstrate
In the words of Marley & the Wailers
'You can fool some people sometimes,
But you can't fool all the people all the time'
We came together
We Drew the line,
We halted the lane
We opened up all the lies
They couldn't explain
When ever they defaced that memorial
We wiped away that Paint
Black, Brown, White
We came together
We never forgot
We fought that wrong
Till they made it right
I pray for every single day and night
the Lawrence's ever feel pain every time
they ever see or hear their sons name
I pray that Mother Liberty
finally shows her face
I pray that justice finally
prevails at this new case
I pray that Stephen Lawrence
can finally Rest In Peace
Remember its been 18 years
But not 18 years to late
For the system to finally shake
Finally wake
Because now we have it
Fibres matched the jacket
Just proves something
We knew all along
So hold your head up
Mr and Mrs Lawrence
Stay strong
Justice soon come....
