Still Gone Poem by Emily None

Still Gone

This all feels fake,
Even the feelings I feel.
But with every step I take,
it all becomes even more real.

Inside I start to crumble.
My heart begins to ache.
Tears begin to tumble,
with one look at that empty face.

I step up to the box.
Here lies the face of a fallen friend.
The image that haunts.
I guess all good things end.

Blurry eyes from tears.
Soothing voices, saying it's okay.
I'm here but I'm not here.
And I wont forget this day.

Students standing in line.
Waving a flag in gold or blue.
Their effort a respectful sign.
It was all they could do.

Water glistens on their cheeks,
as their fallen friend passes by.
For students it isn't comfort they seek.
Instead they wish to wake to a lie.

But the next day their eyes open
and they see its dawn.
But nothing changed and no one wins.
And Mr. Toopes is still gone.
