Still Life Poem by GRANT FRASER

Still Life

Got up, opened curtains,
drew back blinds,
so our Kumquats
and Lemons,
before the window ledge
could breathe,
or behold some early Sun,

And birds chirped,
Seagulls mewing,
but that usual din
from humans -
has disappeared!

No aeroplanes,
distant traffic,
harbour -
multifarious racket,

Even the budgerigars,
came to life,
cackling profoundly,

Aberdeen a transformation,
and the wider world
nervously unfurling,

It's a shame to say
that much darker forces,
are to blame for this,
and we, such earthlings of light?

I'd say we're just more used
to trundling in our own shadow,
cast far away, from what truly matters,

Only now in our own lifetimes -
does it hit us,
like a celestial brick!
that we are all inconsequential..
