Still The Learner Poem by Barry Van Allen

Still The Learner

It is the 'You' I've come to know,
that has made the ' Me' I've come to be,
and It is the time that we have shared,
and the times that we have cared,
that still teaches me the things,
that I must see!

It is the places that I have been,
and those people that I have known,
The lessons of a life are mine to learn,
yesterday is done and gone,
and It is you for whom I long,
And I have never really lost that,
amidst the daily twists and turns!

The future holds the times that I must see,
I know I'll think of those I've known,
and maybe see why I have grown,
... For the past is my own school,
... I know my mind must be the tool,
with which I build the life that I feel right for me!

Still, somehow I regret where we have gone,
and I feel that I've been used much as a pawn,
though you will never understand,
the inner workings of this man,
we both have grown,
from whatever now is gone!
