Storms Poem by Ellen Rose Guilaran

Storms

Downpour of torrent rains
Syncing with crashing waves
Usually hated by the people
But I am most calm in this weather

Perfect storms and grey skies
Cold flush of August
Hinting the freezing
ber months to come
Yet here I am most calm in this weather

Why can't people appreciate this weather?
I guess because I lived in the country
Where sun shines all around
And rain is only a rare instance that nurtures life

Underrated, unappreciated
Like the farmers of this country
Only they yearn for the rain when the sun was too much
And they too, appreciate the sun 'til it gets too much

So tell me, How long did you enjoy the light
Before you suffered in the dark
As well as hide in the dark, in the filth you languish in
I'll never know darling, guess it's better not knowing
But that was then, I was not who I was now

You see this is the beauty of truth
I rather bask in the sun of truth
As well as enjoy its rain
Because that's what life is

And if you can't have that
I'll let you bathe in sin and vices
Where you know you can't live long
And I will not stay long
Because you can't run forever

Only know when to walk
But not, never run away

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Storms is a combination of the poet's self-reflection and foresight of the future based on intuition as well as paying homage to her country, the Philippines, where it's climate is tropical in which sunny days dominate the sky and rainy ones come often, and often hard.
