Story In Haiku Poem by R E Mason

Story In Haiku

Clear sky, sun rays down,
Burning stones, scalding dust rise,
Leathered face, tanned hands.

Withered eyes, dried heat,
Trickled tears, brow tears, salty,
Evaporated.

Dappled sun through leaves,
Humid shade, birds black feathers,
Flying shining heat.

Parched throat, coughs clogged dust,
Misty dreams of cool ice streams,
Melting over skin.

Joyous cool splash falls,
Glassed drops on mirrored waters,
The aquatic flute.

Slumped, legs fail, mass falls,
Parched lips ground into dust,
Furrowed brow relaxed.

Motionless features,
Eyes of glass so unaware,
Smile frozen in death.

No mourners mourned him,
No churchyard bore him in peace,
Life ended alone.
