Strange And Scary Poem by Francis Duggan

Strange And Scary

He told me for my sins that Jesus Christ died
And by people like me that he was crucified
And nailed to a timber cross on Calvary
Big with a loud voice he seemed scary to me.

In the prime of his life big, aggressive and strong
I dared not tell him that he had it all wrong
And compared to him I seemed quite ageing and small
So I listened on and said nothing at all.

At such a time not to argue for me did seem wise
It may have saved me a bloodied face and swollen eyes
I could not say to him that it was not I
Who caused his great hero on Calvary to die.

He seemed to think for Christ's death I was to blame
And for that I should feel remorse and shame
A quick tempered loud mouthed angry young man
To deal with him silence did seem my best plan.

I was happy to see him walk off down the street
He is one I never again hope to meet
Strange and scary people like him one does not meet every day
A religious manic depressive he did seem that way.
