Strange Worshipper Of My Heart (To A Dalit Girl) Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Strange Worshipper Of My Heart (To A Dalit Girl)

Coming to in a dream,
She said it to me,
'I am the worshipper of your heart,
Why do you search me outside?
I am inside your heart.'

' If there is none around,
I shall worship your house deity
If none is around to do the puja,
Taking the bath
Just to carry it on
Rather than keeping them unworshipped.'

'Why to keep the house deity unworshipped,
Unattended, debarred from daily worship?
I am there to worship, carry it on in absence
Taking persmission from you
Even though a Brahmin,
Do the florists not help the priests
In temples,
Do the door-keeprs and guards?
And above all, if the heart is clean
The Ganges is in your bowl.'
