Stupid Genius Poem by Robbie Squires

Stupid Genius

The prison mans beard grows long
But his hair gets shorter as the days go on
He develops the capacity to read minds
Uneducated and ignorant, he cant tell the time

His life from the start was a struggle
Sheltered and abused, he lived in a hellish bubble
His drunk dad ran away when he was only eight
Although his dad was gone
There was much he still could not say
When the boy was twelve his mother was convicted of murder
Sentenced to life in prison, he would never see her
So he grew up on the streets
Never went to school, only got mean
Was shot four times by a gang of Mexicans
Never went to the doctor, he walks with a limp
The local prison needed someone to watch the asylum
46, he took the job, provided water and food
All day and all night sat in a cold hard chair
Like an imperial guard with a blank stare
Thirty years later, he does the same thing
Still uneducated and ignorant, but expanded his brain
Day after day he has studied the inmates
Grown to know them without verbal expression

After all these years he has done what none can do
He can read their minds, what he finds is surprisingly true
They are thinking what everyone else is thinking
What have they done to be sent to this place?
For what he has discovered
They are normal in a jail run by the inmates
