Such Despair Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Such Despair

Once he was a millionaire
who spent his fortune with much care.
He wooed and married a beauty queen
and bought her jewels and a limousine.

He owned apartments down in the City
Villas in Spain and property in Italy.
But suddenly he collapsed and died,
his wealth he left to his beautiful bride.

She soon became a 'hey big spender'
even though acquaintances warned her!
Huge debts accrued, and all could see
she was a 'fallen' legatee.

The bills came floating through the door
Until she could carry on no more...
a ruined soul, without a friend,
her impulsive lifestyle at an end.

Days were filled with such despair,
alone ~ she just played Solitaire,
waiting for the 'phone to ring ~
Oh bankruptcy is a dreadful thing.
