Sufi Couple In Africa Poem by Sumita Jetley

Sufi Couple In Africa

Thud Thud Thud.

The beat of drums so clear,
In the African savanna, we draw near.
Arjun and Meera, hearts in silent prayer,
Feel the rhythm, the drum's sweet flair.

Eyes closed, in dhikr, they silently partake,
In the dance of spirit, no sounds they make.
The drummers' hands move with grace,
A divine conversation, in this sacred place.

They speak to the drummers, smiles wide,
"Your music is prayer, " they confide.
"Yes, " the drummer says with pride,
"In rhythm, the divine does reside."

As the sun sets, the couple leans,
Together in peace, a moment serene.
"It's the friend's wish, his will, " they say,
"We just sit and joyfully pray."

Different paths, but one spirit found,
In the drums' beat, and silence profound.
Thud Thud Thud, the invoking true,
In unity and love, the divine we pursue.
