Summer Mosaic Poem by Sheena Blackhall

Summer Mosaic

Bee-nuzzled, scents arise from honeysuckle
And bands of beautiful forgetmenots
A shower of beech leaves, drop a waterfall
Midgies in clouds drift by in hazy dots

The yellow's on the broom, its waving arms
Rattle their golden jewels over the flank
Of a bright river, sailing glitterful.
A heron, feathered statue, haunts its bank

A butterfly goes jitterbugging by
A curlew chants a soulful, solemn psalm
From out of nature's wardrobe, fly the swifts
And dandelion clock's small seconds, swarm

Within its buried sett a badger sleeps
Above, white apple blossom carpets grass
Fledglings cheep with diamond-gaping beaks
Clouds write legends as they idly pass

In gardens, pansies raise their violet heads
Homes in suburbia tend flowery moats
This is the sumptuous season, all's a-stir
A dragonfly lifts from a pool and floats
