Sunday Shoes Poem by Jacqueline Czel

Sunday Shoes

I'm going to put on my Sunday shoes
and shake off the Saturday night blues
with a little shimmy and shake down on
Tremont where the Baptists roll,
I'm going to put on my Sunday shoes and
take a little stroll perhaps in my Sunday
best, some kind of something, Sunday
dress decorated for the Good Lord
to see, and in my Sunday shoes,
he'll surely recognize me.

I'm going to put on my Sunday shoes
and step over the cracks of denial
and all things shameful, sinful or vile as I tread
towards some kind of absolution and pray
for all kinds of solutions that surely
must come my way as I kick up the
Ghost and stir the Divine, in my
Sunday shoes, soft, leather and fine.
