Sunset Poem by Addy Adenawo

Sunset

Why is the soul silent?
And why doesn't it sing
Skip like it used to
To a sweet tune

At nature's melody
Birds with ruffled feathers tweet
And the leaves sway
Along travelers' way

How can the soul sing
When it's stripped bare?
Can one finger tie a knot?
Or a beggar buy a god

Like wine in crystal
We mingled perfectly
And sealed our fate
A tragedy of love for tales

Thought you were
The other half of me
Who would never criticize
The other side of me

My cotton candy cloud
For an outpouring of sweetness
The curtain to veil
All of the pain

Time flew by
Distance pulled apart
Life got in the way
And turned everything gray

This torn, shredded shroud
This peeled, battered innocence
How can we repair
And make the robin no longer despair?
